Evaluation
The assessment services offered by Neurocognitive Consultants are designed to facilitate understanding of how individuals function and learn by using reliable neuropsychological, educational, and psychodiagnostic tests. An evaluation is most helpful when a learning disability, developmental delay, intellectual disability, or other cognitive problem (e.g., difficulty with memory, attention, or executive functioning skills, such as organization or planning) is suspected. A comprehensive evaluation may also be helpful for individuals struggling with behavioral, social or emotional difficulties (e.g., anxiety, depression, etc.) that seem to be interfering with social, cognitive, or academic functioning. Such evaluations may offer diagnostic clarity and related treatment recommendations.
In general, a comprehensive evaluation is intended to offer increased awareness of why an individual may be struggling to meet developmental, academic, or social milestones. The process often helps to solidify appropriate clinical diagnoses, but more importantly, works to identify which interventional or support services are recommended in order for individuals to perform at their best across multiple settings. As such, upon written consent, our team will communicate as needed with physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, school professionals, and other psychologists in order to coordinate management of the individual’s treatment plan, educational programs, and/or other necessary referrals or placements.
Types of Evaluation
Several types of evaluations are offered by Neurocognitive Consultants in order to understand an individual’s strengths and weaknesses and make an accurate diagnosis.
A Developmental Evaluation provides a thorough understanding of a child’s early developmental status and milestone acquisition in order to define areas or conditions in need of attention or services.
An Autism Screening aids families with regular developmental surveillance as well as confirmation of pervasive developmental delays to aid in the treatment of Autism Spectrum and Disorders (ASD).
Gifted Testing identifies students eligible for gifted and talented programs and provides feedback to guide the educational process.
A Psychoeducational Evaluation analyzes the mental processes underlying a child’s academic performance, such as attentional difficulties or learning disabilities.
A Psychodiagnostic Evaluation identifies the presence of disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Thought Disorder, or Personality Issues.
A Neuropsychological Evaluation investigates an individual’s cognitive, emotional and behavioral functioning, specifically as it relates to intellectual abilities, speed of mental processing, attention/concentration, planning and organizational abilities, language processing, learning and memory, sensory-perceptual functions, visuospatial processing, adaptive functioning, and motor speed, strength, and coordination.
A Disability Evaluation determines the severity of an individual’s impairment(s) and assesses whether their impairment(s) results in marked or severe functional limitations.
A Forensic Evaluation evaluates parties in criminal or civil cases regarding mental health issues related to their case.
Through the use of developmental, intellectual, academic/educational, psychological, and neuropsychological assessments, Neurocognitive Consultants can offer a variety of diagnostic services for all ages.
